The new kitchen cabinets, built to order by Capstone Cabinets in San Jose, have been installed and some of the appliances, but not the countertops. The cabinets are faced with 1/2" solid core bamboo panels. This is cross-laminated solid bamboo. The drawers and interior structure is 9-ply maple-surfaced plywood. Handles are made by Hafele, extruded black-anodized alumninum and flush with the cabinet surfaces.
This photo shows the side of the kitchen that is adjacent to the living room. Pull-out vertical pantry drawers are on the right. The sink will be located centered on the width of the counter and the dishwasher is to the right of the sink (face of the Bosch SHV46C13UC Integra 500 Series dishwasher will be covered with a bamboo panel to match the cabinets). The cabinets above the sink are enclosed with sliding ecoresin Varia Moderna acrylic panels from 3Form (color: "Atmosphere Stone 2", note that the color shown on the 3Form website is not at all accurate).
