Day 18: Wednesday, Oct 22 1997

Today there's not enough time for another game drive before we have to get to the airport to make our flight back to Harare. In the morning we take a walk down the hill to the small resovoir and dam that Harry built a few years ago to attract more game to the ranch.
On the way we pass by a group of five newer rondavels just off the main property. At the moment they are not occupied, but Harry says that during the peak season, June to September, they are often full.
At the dam we watch weaverbirds and startle a family of wart hogs when we come too close to them. Back from our walk, we watch "the Beeb" (the BBC) on their newly installed satellite TV. This is the first news we've seen in weeks, but it seems that nothing terribly dramatic has occurred in our absence from modern communications.

We bid our farewells to Harry, and Themba takes us to the airport, where we once again run into Bob ("Retirement? I hate it!"). The flight to Harare was on time, and we share a taxi with Bob to the Bronte Hotel. We invite him to join us for dinner, and discuss what it is like to move back to the States after living abroad. He said it took some real adjusting for him, since so few people can relate to the overseas experience.
