Sunrise at Nyati Lodge

To make our mid-morning fight, we depart the hotel at 7am. The streets of the city are full of people, including children walking to school in their English-style school uniforms.

Halfway to the airport, the meter in our ancient taxi breaks. Rosemary comments, "As long as the engine keeps working!" The driver laughs.

At the small airport it is a challenge to find the signs leading to the check-in counter. Departure tax is US$20!

We are stunned to find a small business in the airport offering Net access. But at a minimum charge of Z$50 ($US4.50) for 15 minutes I'm not interested.

Our flight back to Singapore through Jo'berg is uneventful. This vacation has been one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. Typing up this account months later, while a lot of work, has been enjoyable just for the chance to re-live it all over again. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it up. Whether or not the animals we saw will survive for coming generations to enjoy is anyone's guess.
